Gordon Brown for the first time in its abolition of the tax credits stealth advanced corporation tax on pensions in his 1997 budget. Terry Arthur, Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries estimated that this would reduce the value of UK pension schemes over a  £ 100 billion in a document prepared for the group. A joint investigation by The Independent on Sunday and BDO Stoy Hayward, the accountancy and undertakings Advisory Group, has revealed that Mr Brown's 1997 decision to tax dividends paid to pension funds will have consequences far greater than previously thought.  £ 100,000 figure represents a reduction of up to 13 per cent of the value of the pension pot a worker who pays in a defined contribution plan can expect to save during their working life.
In addition, many enterprises that contribute to final salary schemes has halved under the Labor government. In addition to this, they decided not to adopt an amendment that would have given 8 million women with a pension partial chance to make up shortfall in their national insurance contributions by lump payment of money into their national insurance contributions. In fact, pressure is growing for Gordon Brown to resign as James Purnell became the third cabinet minister to resign, according to BBC news, June 5th. In fact, after ICM poll, only 29% of the 1,005 adults surveyed thought that Gordon Brown was in touch with ordinary people.
In the last budget, Gordon Brown, increased the highest rate of income tax 50% and reducing the personal allowance to nil at the higher rate of tax. Double Whammy. In a Treasury document published in April 2003, the tax would have 16,000 expatriates on its database by declaring a total income of  £ 800 million. Some estimates speak of more than 5 billion books. But you compare that to the  £ 25 billion that RBS moved abroad and it is put into perspective, especially considering  £ 20 billion of taxpayers' money in their bailout.
One thing is sure, with an aging population growing, there not enough young people who contribute to the plan state to take care of retirees. The likely result is increased repression of pensions in the future and an increase in taxes (as we have already seen). Fortunately for British citizens, they can transfer their UK pension offshore private to mitigate the tax. The qualification recognized Overseas Pension Scheme (QROPS) allows most types of private pensions in the United Kingdom to be transferred abroad. QROPS has been designed with the intention of giving expatriates in the United Kingdom who did not return to the United Kingdom can Penion their move to a "white list" of countries as offshore Guernsey or the Isle of Man. Not only do you reduce taxes on income, capital gains and inheritance, but you do not need to buy an annuity. This means that your pension fund is left to your spouse upon death and then your children if your spouse dies.
In addition, you do not need to report to HMRC (UK tax office) after 5 years. If you been abroad for 5 years already, you do not need to report to them at all. You may even be able to access 25% of your funds transfer immediately after you have provided over 50 years (55 from 2010) and you can place your property within the QROPS, so your children do not have to pay inheritance tax on your house (s). Obviously there are costs after the transfer. Gordon Brown is striking at the door and it's a mystery how long the Treasury will allow these transfers abroad. But once they are off they will not be held in the United Kingdom so that the government will not be able to withdraw your funds retrospectively. Not all benefit pensions in the United Kingdom from a QROPS though. There are some excellent schemes that provide final salary guarantees that some may be better in the United Kingdom. The best thing to do is talk to a qualified local financial advisor.
