Kevin Harvick

6.
Jeff Burton —
For the third consecutive season, Jeff Burton, a model of consistency, challenged for the Championship Cup Sprint, but he sputtered to the finish of the season following his victory at Charlotte in October. Stability defined Burrton of the 2008 season. He scored a top ten finish in half of 36 races and won two races (Bristol and Charlotte). Burton led the championship standings for the Sprint Cup for several weeks in the spring, but the 31 team has slowly started to slide down the ladder as the season progressed. Burton win at Charlotte back on the radar of the championship, but his dreams of championship started quickly fizzled once the series came at Martinsville a week later.
In 2009, Burton will be competing in the Chase for the Championship by default. He will fight for a win from time to time, but it would not be a shocker if met a season without a win.
5. Clint Bowyer —
Following his breakthrough season in 2007, several analysts predicted a championship contender Clint Bowyer. Unfortunately, Bowyer 2008 season just at the height of the 2007 season. His solitary victory of the season took place in Richmond, and only because that Denny Hamlin cut a tire with less than 20 laps to go, and then Dale Earnhart, Jr. and Kyle Busch crash on the track. As both Richard Childress _blank> Racing "> http://www.nascapper.com/"> teammates Racing, Bowyer was consistent, so he won a place in the Chase for the Championship for the second consecutive season.
Bowyer will start on 07 Jack Daniel's team and become the true engine reached 33 Team General Mills to Richard Childress Racing. While it is not changing organizations, a new team characters around him, including a new crew chief, Shane Wilson. It will be difficult for Bowyer to qualify for the Chase for the Championship based on his results 2008, particularly in view of the switch of the team.
4.
Kevin Harvick —
Kevin Harvick has failed to win a race in 2008, but he was in good company. Kenneth Matt and Jeff Gordon has joined the guild win. However, Harvick has experienced a series of nine consecutive top ten finishes in summer, which helped win him a third consecutive Chase for the championship appearance. While Harvrick was one of the best results in the second half of the season, there seemed to be a fourth driver in seventh place at best. His season almost mirror those of his teammates, except Harvick has not won a race.
Harvick should fight for a spot in the Chase for the Championship in 2009. He has emerged as one the most consistent drivers in NASCAR. Consistency alone may not win championships, but do not enter the twelve-man, ten-Showdown race.
3. Greg Biffle —
Greg Biffle has not won a "> http://www.nascapper.com/"> a course in the first 26 races of the season, but once the Chase for the Championship approached, Biffle came out swinging. He opened the Chase for the Championship with back-to-back wins at New Hampshire and Dover. He stayed in striking distance of Jimmie Johnson, until the last race of the season. Overall, the season 2008 has been a resurgence for Biffle, who many revere as one of the most talented drivers in the garage.
Biffle has not qualify for the Chase for the Championship in subsequent seasons, but this should change in 2009. It seems that this team to scratch the surface of their potential without limit. Biffle is ready to fight for the championship of the Sprint Cup.
2. Carl Edwards —
Perhaps a little patience and a little Talladega luck in Charlotte have come a long way in the submission of Carl Edwards' championship in 2008 Sprint Cup. Edwards was easily faster than Jimmie Johnson has been over the last ten races. He has won three of last four races. Unfortunately, two finishes are poor enough to reduce its aspirations championship. That said, Edwards leads the Sprint Cup Series in wins with nine top five with nineteen, and with 27 top tens. Edwards certainly had his best season to date.
Edwards is the league favorite heading into the 2009 season, with all apologies to Jimmie Johnson. While Johnson and Kyle Busch have their brilliant moments in 2008, they also had moments of perceived vulnerability. Edwards was quick from Daytona to Homestead and everywhere in between.
1.
Jimmie Johnson —
Jimmie Johnson finished the Tri-feta, the three-peat, or any other cliche you may recall. He joined the legendary Caleb Yarborough as the only drivers to win three consecutive championships. This season was not a long walk in the park for Johnson, however. This team First struggled on intermediate tracks with the Car of Tomorrow last spring. Their performance in Las Vegas was perhaps the worst performance that since their arrival in the _blank> NASCAR> http://www.nascapper.com/ "> NASCAR in the fall of 2001. However, Team Leader and Chad Klaus Team 48 have resolved the problems by doing their homework, finding the balance and comfortable that Johnson needed. While the season progressed, the 48 team has become even more formidable, and when the hunt for the championship arrived, Johnson was the driver to beat. He has won three times in the ten-race Chase for the Championship, and finished no worse than 15th en route to NASCAR's ultimate prize.
It is difficult to gauge a driver and team won four consecutive titles. Nevertheless, Johnson is a perennial favorite of the championship and this team is as close to flawless as any team in this sport is rich in history. Johnson will win races several times in 2009, and expect him to be able to win his fourth championship come November.
