If you replace the old water heater with a new unit that is similar to the former, you will not find it very difficult to replace. In addition, if you follow the steps below, it will make your task easier. – Turn off the water – If you have a gas stove, turn off the power gas, or if you have an electric heater, turn off the power. – The next step is to drain the water tank. If you do not a floor drain below the valve, you can connect a hose to the drain valve near the base of the tank. Run it in a drain near or outside, then open the valve. – Unscrew the fittings inlet and outlet at the top of the tank, using two keys. – If you have a water heater gas, close the inlet valve of gas. Disconnect the union or connection between the flared pipe gas supply and the intake valve. You can use two keys to disconnect the same. You will also find a chimney cap on top of the tank. It expels the gas in the chimney. Remove hat and combustion. – Remove the old heater. – Set new heater carefully in place so that the burner and controls are accessible. Make sure are at least six inches of clearance around its perimeter, and it is far from any flammable material. – It is preferable that you fill the base with pieces of asphalt shingles or plastic wedges. – Wrap the threads of the fittings to trap heat pipes tape. – Connect the blue wire of the organization in the cold water inlet of the heater, and in making red hot. – Be careful when connecting the same. Make sure the arrows are marked the point of water connections in the flow direction. – Entry and exit tubes of the heater to install the new flexible connectors. – Make sure all connections are complete. – Open the stop wall and fill the tank. – Open a little hot water faucets to allow air in bleed off pipes. – Now, assemble the gas pipes by the manufacturer instruction. – Brush with soapy water on all connections, and carefully watch it should not produce any bubbles. If so, recheck the connection again.
Some Other Handy Tips – Check with your local building department and confirm if your house is in a seismic zone. Install straps around the new water heater. – If the height of the new tank is different the former, you should use flexible pipe connectors for input and output of water. This will enable them to bend whenever is necessary to make the connection.
If the pipes are not threaded, replace them with threaded nipples. Use a wrench to adjust connectors with nipples.
Therefore, if you follow the steps above and councils, it will be easy to replace a water heater.
